    I first want to give a shout-out and thanks to Dugchugger and OzDragon for recommending the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. The book has become one of my favorites with many run-throughs to date. This in turn has led to a difficult time remaining impartial for the screening of the film for this review. I will do my best not to drop too many Easter egg spoilers as I go.

    Ready Player One is a film adaptation of the book by the same title. For those of you who have read the book, be forewarned that it is very loosely based on the book. A good number of the pivotal plot markers are there; however, I found the movie lacking the same depth as the book. Yes I know that if they went to cram everything into the movie that's in the book we'd spend half a day in front of the movie and the royalties paid out would be astronomical sinking production before it even started.

    The story takes place in two very different settings that are shown off quite well. The first is the real world which uses mostly real world environment in its cinematography with little discernible CGI special effects. The second is the OASIS which as far as I can tell is almost completely done in CGI which helps give it an other-worldly, computer-simulated environment. This however has a downside as the OASIS comes across as feeling a bit too cartoony for my taste and imagination.

      Even though we went in with little expectations of the movie following the book too closely, we were surprised by just how different it was. If I hadn't read the book there wouldn't have been a hitch... the movie was pretty epic. But there were a few scenes we had been looking forward to that never came. The casting was spot on. I'm probably going to give this a 7 or 8 on imdb. If I could do half scores, it would be a definite 7.5.

      My feelings about this movie are simple: as a stand-alone movie for those who have not read the book it is a MUST see and I am leaning towards an IMDB rating of 8/10. Seeing as this was based on a book there was a lot missing that I agree should have been in there. Background stuff and key moments that I feel should have been mentioned.
